Tension in Bunkpurugu as two die in chieftaincy row

Tension is mounting in Bunkpurugu in the Northern region of Ghana following the death of two people in a chieftaincy dispute on Sunday.

The renewed chieftaincy brawl is between the Jamong and the Jafog clans who are both Bimobas.

According to media reports, the melee over the weekend lasted for “several hours” before the police managed to bring it under control. Several houses were set ablaze and dozens have been rendered homeless.

According to Accra-based Citi FM, the deceased have been identified as “a male teacher and a businessman.”

Their remains have since been deposited at the Baptist Medical Centre (BMC) in Nalerigu.

Residents are, however, living in fear as a result of the incident, but the police have intensified their patrol to protect the relative peace in the area.
