Pratt rebukes Police in YFM Presenter scandal

Managing Editor of the Insight Newspaper Kwesi Pratt Jnr. has said the role of the police in the recent alleged kidnapping and rape of YFM presenter is questionable.

He said the police’s claim that Tuesday’s  kidnapping incident was the fifth of such incident to have been staged by the presenter was bizaare.

Even more worrying Pratt said on Peace FM’s morning show, ‘Kokrokoo’, is the failure by the police to take action even though they had prior information the lady, Naana Appiah was going to stage another kidnapping.

If the police said they had a tip-off that this was going to happen, then what did they do especially if indeed this is the fifth time? And on the four previous occasions she did not cooperate with the police in investigations, what did the police do? he quizzed.

Mr Pratt believes that even if it was not true, the police ought to have been proactive immediately they received the tip-off in order to prevent this national scandal.

For an issue like this to divert national attention from all the important issues and create panic and fear is something Pratt believes the police should not have allowed to happen, he added.

Adaeze Onyinyechie Ayoka, real name Naana Appiah Antwi held the entire nation on the edge of their seats after it emerged that she had been kidnapped and raped.

She was later found at the GAPOHA hospital where she was receiving treatment for what was initially thought to be shock and trauma. It has however come to light after investigations that the entire rape story was staged by the presenter to gain the attention of her ex-boyfriend.

On the orders of the Inspector General of Police (IGP) the case has been transferred to Accra for further investigations to be conducted.

Joy News has discovered that along with five men, she patronised an unnamed hotel in Abbosey Okai, a suburb of Accra where the whole incident was staged.

According to the hotel manager who has submitted a written statement to the police, Ada took a room in the hotel under the guise of shooting a movie.

Further investigations have also revealed that she was not a Nigerian afterall contrary to what her name, Adaeze Onyinyechie Ayoka may have communicated.

Her father in an interview Thursday said the name she gave her was Naana Appiah Antwi.

According to him the Nigerian name came about after she worked with a Nigerian man called Mr Ayoka. The man, he said, adopted her and gave her the Nigerian name.

He also denied reports that his daughter was mentally unstable.

Kwesi Pratt said if it was indeed true that she hired people to frame up the story then “what kind of woman will she be? What is her frame of mind?”, he quizzed.

He said the presenter must be made to undergo a psychiatric test because it is bizarre for a woman with such beauty and calibre to strip herself naked in the full glare of the cameras and later publish the photos on social media.

He said it was not in the father’s place to say that his daughter is mentally stable, not even the police.

According to him, if after investigations it turns out that the story was indeed staged then she should be punished to serve as deterrent to others.

Meanwhile the police say they have arrested one person in connection with the case and will speak to the presenter as soon as she ‘comes out of shock’.

Interesting details have also emerged about the life she lived while in Senior High School.
