‘My husband starved me of sex’

Aderonke Akinyemi says she wants the marriage of 18 years dissolved.

A 38-year-old housewife, Aderonke Akinyemi, on Tuesday, told a Badagry Customary Court to dissolve her marriage because her husband starved her of sex for the past four years.

“For four years my husband did not have sex with me,” she said. “When he comes back from work he always gives excuses of tiredness or sickness.”

Aderonke, a mother of two, also accused her husband, Adewole Akinyemi of threat to life, frequent fighting and lack of care.

However, while responding to the allegations, Akinyemi, 45, told the court that it was the other way round. “My wife always turns me down each time I want to have sex with her and she does not give any reason for her action,” he said.

Reacting to her husband’s defence, Aderonke blamed the respondent for her action, saying that Adewole had said he wanted only two children. “On three occasions when I was pregnant for him, he asked me to abort it, so because of this, I refused to allow him have sex with me again,” she said.

The president of the court, Mr A.B. Kudaisi, asked the couple to go back home for possible reconciliation and adjourned the case till July 23.

“You have to think of the interest of the children, especially now that they are at a crucial stage when they need your financial and moral support for their education,” he said.
