HANCUFF2 6 Women Among 40 Armed Robbers Arrested In Kumasi

About 40 suspected armed robbers including six females who have been terrorizing the people of Kumasi with their nefarious activities, were apprehended by the police in a major swoop yesterday. The suspects were said to have been picked up at their hideouts at the Railway Line in Kumasi, in an operation carried out by the Buffalo Unit. The operation started around 9:00am and ended around 2:00pm on Thursday.

A police source that disclosed the information to DAILY GUIDE said the exercise was necessitated by the rise in robbery incidents, notably bag-snatching, which were gaining currency in some parts of the city during the night. He noted that the exercise, which would be sustained in the coming days, was geared towards smoking out all hoodlums who had been operating freely in the Garden City of late.

According to him, the suspected gangsters and their cohort, most of whom were still at large, normally embarked on the robbery spree in the city after dark and rested during the day. He said most of the arrested hoodlums were grabbed whilst sleeping surprisingly in big gutters around the Railway Line, perhaps after going on a robbery spree the previous night.

Throwing more light on the latest swoop, the police source noted that the men in black, having been informed about where the gangsters normally hide during the day, decided to catch them unawares. He said a special team from the Buffalo Unit, which was highly armed, stormed the Railway Line area in the morning, arresting the suspects most of whom were asleep.

The source said the police, by the major swoop, wanted to send a strong signal to all hoodlums operating in Kumasi that the place was no longer safe for them. He hinted that the arrested criminals, who were now in police custody, would be arraigned soon, disclosing that leaves suspected to be Indian hemp, were found on some of them at the time of the arrest.
